@ about 0430hrs we started the 2009 6 inch off-road trails 46km,
to make sure we got a good line up Goldmine Hill, some of us did a crouch start to get the fastest possible start.
It worked for me this year, but I might need to bring starting blocks next year...hahaha Got To Whittakers Mill an old Bibbulumun Track campsite (before they turned this part of the Bibbulumun into the Munda Biddi) in about 38 minutes, where BB was waiting to take good photos like this one of everyone.........
Almost at the finish, less than 100m to go...
After 6 hrs and 16minutes, I was very happy to hit the finish line in the 33 degree heat, with a 9 minute PB, meaning my mission for the day was accomplished. Very happy with first PB for 4 years!!! After a difficult injury plagued start to the year, started to find some good momentum in the second half of 2009. During the race I used about 6 litres of fluids (only just enough, another litre or two would have helped), made up of more than 3 litres of water, almost 2 litres of powerade,a little coca cola, and endura from the race sponsor also... click on the photo to read my blog race report...
Afterwards feeling very very tired, but very very very happy...
After the race (although Talia and Mike were still out there at this stage, and Kevin, Brett, Craig and others? had gone home for the day), Dave wrapped up the race with giveaways of goodies from the Sponsors, and congratulations of winners...etc... Big thanks to my driver for the day my Dad!, and to my wife Kathryn for looking after our 2 year old at home and putting up with a very tired me that night... (I still only managed 1 hours sleep on the Saturday night, although I was well prepared, as a result of a shift swap at work to finish earlier the night before).
So a successful PB race in the 6 inch challenge a wonderful way to finish 2009's racing.
More on my blog HERE... Sub 6 hours is the obvious next goal if I am able to get up for it again in future years, and 6 inch is ideal preparation for one of the toughest races in Australia and the world; the 6 foot track 45km. One of my dreams for almost half a decade now is to join that select few from Western Australia who have finished 6 foot. Its a tough challenge just to get your entry in to 6 foot now as we saw in December 2009 with all 850 spots going in a few hours... Official 6 inch results are HERE...2008 6 inch results page...
Thanks God for a very happy, satisfying day...
