WARWC member Scott Hollaway has walked faster than Don Keane's 45 year old 3km walk record, and finished 2nd in the U/18 event at the recent Nationals in Perth, March 1999. Clay Foster (14.14) and Nyssa Cobby (15.16) performed well in their respective U/18 events. Several RWCWA members also featured in these championships...with Gemma Christie, Shana Cobby, Genevra Cross, Stuart Walker, Michael McCagh, Tristan Hellings, the athletes winning medals in the Under 14 1500m Walks. Race Walking is a progression of steps so taken that the walker makes contact with the ground so that no visible (to the human eyes) loss of contact occurs. The advancing leg shall be straightened (ie. not bent at the knee) from the moment of first contact with the ground until in the vertical upright position.
